Project Specific

Company had to evaluate the possibility of the designed booster compressor station connection to the existing flare system of gas treatment plant.

Another project task was to define connection points to the existing flare system taking into account allowable pressure losses and emergency discharge modes.

Company had to meet the following project requirements:

  • Provide optimized solution in terms of the length and diameter of the designed flare header and meet requirements
  • Ensure for pressure losses on the existing flare.
How PASS software helped in the project execution

Using PASS/HYDROSYSTEM, the existing gas pumping unit was simulated, and hydraulic calculations of the integrated piping system as well as options for connecting the designed flare system to the existing system were performed.

The calculation allowed to exclude an additional flare from the design scheme and confirm the possibility of discharge to the existing flare; to optimize the length and pipelines diameter of the designed flare system.

Usage of PASS/HYDROSYSTEM helped to confirm the design decisions quickly (within three working days) and optimize the total metal capacity of the designed flare header by reducing its length.

Results The results of the hydraulic calculations within the project documentation were approved by experts. A positive review of the Authorizing Body (Glavgosexpertiza of Russia - GGE) has been obtained; the facility is under construction currently and will start operation in 2020.
